The garden is winding down - these litchi tomatoes planted themselves - they don’t get enough light/heat to produce fruit, and what does get produced is bland and seedy. But check out those thorns! This is one being who wants to be left alone.
Are cucumbers too big for you? Are Mexican cucamelons too big for you? Here’s the Delaware creeping cucumber, about the size of a jelly bean, but super tasty! Can’t get over how tiny they are, lol. #experimentalfarmnetwork #tinyvegetables #permaculture #growfoodnotlawns
Perfect sunny dry day for harvesting hops! I’m making a simple syrup to add to seltzer water - I love the bite and the citrusy taste. #hops #hopsyrup #infusedsyrups #growyourownfood
My fave weirdo vegetable - red noodle beans! #rareseeds #bakercreekheirloomseeds #growyourownfood #gardensnotlawns
I got my issue of @wildfire_bc_magazine in the mail today! It’s a beautiful publication, and clearly a lot of love goes into putting it out. It’s also really weird to see my name in print, lol.
Recent haul from the garden! #wingedbeans and #cherrytomatoes - two of my favorite things that I’m gonna grow forever and ever and ever and ever, lol. #growyourownfood #gardensnotlawns #permaculture #edimentals
Thanks to many of you lovely folks on IG, I developed a very different sense of self and a different state of mind too.
Cool hornet nest! Looks like they built it up in the eaves near my folks’ porch & the nest is totally visible from inside the porch (it’s screened, so safe) - you can see all kinds of activity going on inside what’s normally a mystery to us - so cool! #natureisawesome #insects #hornetsnest
Harvest day at the #communitygarden - all this fine stuff is headed to the food pantry tomorrow. Potatoes always blow my mind - you put in these little bits of potato, wait a few months, and come back to pounds and pounds. Harvest food for others feels good in a different way from harvesting for my own family - it feels like a little personal outreach to someone who needs help with food, and that’s such a good thing for humans to do for each other, especially for our elders.
